Creating a Birth Plan

Thinking about what you might like in labour and highlighting your birth preferences can help inform the Midwives and Doctors about what you and your partner are hoping for during your labour and birth .It tells them about the type of labour and birth you'd like to have, what you want to happen, and what you want to avoid. A plan can help you feel confident , in control and part of the decision making process, even when unexpected event occur . It is important to remember that this plan needs to be flexible to accomodate the unexpected .

Researching a birth plan is also a great way to learn more about what to expect on the day. But you and your birth partner should still prepare yourselves for the possibility that you may need or want to make some adjustments on the day.

Discussing a birth plan with your midwives will give you the chance to ask questions and find out more about what happens in labour . It also allows the midwife to get to know you better and understand your feelings and priorities
